In search for the perfect pair of elegant tortoiseshell earrings, Jennifer Matchett launched her jewelry label Machete in Atlanta, Georgia in 2017. Starting with a few pairs made from deadstock acetate found in a secondhand store, she quickly expanded her collection to multiple shades of tortoise. While some designers opt for petroleum-based synthetics, Machete is committed to using cellulose acetate - a natural, renewable material made by extracting cellulose fibers from cotton and wood pulp imported directly from Italy. Machete has been an industry leader in sustainable design.
