BEING A WOMAN IS...
Strength. It is love. It is challenging and complex, but beautiful. Carl Jung’s quote comes to mind “In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.”
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL CONFIDENT?
My vintage Akoma jacket. I purchased the fabric in a museum in Ghana, the fabric is said to be approximately 80-100 years old and it belonged at one point to an Ashanti chief. Whenever I wear that jacket I feel confidence, it really gives me a sense that anything is possible.
WORDS YOU LIVE BY:
Nothing is impossible. Life is a lot easier when you stop fighting the universe, acknowledge and accept that it works for you - not against you! All else will fall into place.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR 20-YEAR-OLD SELF?
Breath in… breath out! The power of self awareness is transformational?!
YOUR FASHION ICON:
My mom. She has always instilled unconventionality in her style and fashion choices. It’s very much the opposite of my personal style, I am more inclined towards a classic look but I truly enjoy seeing her shine and turn heads wherever she goes. She is very elegant yet very eclectic.
FAVORITE BRAND BESIDES AKOMA:
Very difficult question, I admire so many brands. I love Chanel because it is the epitomy of luxury and elegance. Stella McCartney for being a pioneer in pushing the boundaries of ethical and sustainable fashion. Edun, Reformation, Sezanne… I also love Johnna Ortiz, and her thorough understanding of tropical glamour.
BIGGEST MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR:
Being a featured designer in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week with my previous company, Cote d'Or Swimwear.
FAVORITE PLACE YOU'VE TRAVELED RECENTLY:
South of France, it never gets old.
MINI, MIDI, OR MAXI?
WHAT IS YOUR ANTIDOTE?
Color, when I am feeling low energy I consciously wear very colorful pieces. It has an incredible effect on my mood. Right now my power color is - mustard yellow. I also enjoy meditation and yoga, it’s the best way to start and/or end the day.
